I am thrilled with all the help so far on my quilt. The quilts I've done to date, and that's not many, have been using a pattern whether fully or in part but I've not been left on my own. I've got questions that maybe you my readers can help me with.
Should I do more rows across, as in, 7 rows across and 8 rows down? I'm looking through books and patterns and that seems to be how it is usually done. I just started putting them down and followed the floorspace or something as to why I have 6 rows across and 9 down. I'm still learning and that's why I like to get advice from y'all.
I do like the random look but I think I may play with the lights and darks to spend them out a little more evenly. So, I do appreciate any help you give.

10 sweet reflections:
Try a layout with 7 across and 8 down and see what that looks like. And then compare with the other pictures you took.

Its looking amazing!!! Linnea's advise of going 7 across and 8 down would look great. Just try it out.
Susan, your blocks are lovely!!! I'm setting mine 7 across/8 down, and I'll put in sashing and cornerstones, so I can have a queen size quilt! But again, your blocks are beautiful!!
Susan what absolutely stunning blocks, beautiful. Yes I agree with the others girls and say 7 across and 8 down, abit more width would balance it out.
You used a very pleasing use of colors in you CW quilt. Your blocks look wonderful.
I wondered why it was long and thin. I made a quilt that proportion once, and it never really looked balanced. I still don't really like the quilt. I bet you'll prefer a 7X8 configuration.
Hi again Susan! ;-D I think the 7 x 8 layout would look more balanced, but that might just be me. I usually decide how to lay them out based on how I want to use the quilt. Is it a wallhanging to fit in a specific space? Maybe the wall is long and narrow and your longer quilt would work well. Or maybe for a quilt running along the foot of a bed too. But if you want the quilt to go on a bed, it would be better to get it closer to square. There are lots of websites that give matress sizes and suggestions for quilt sizes to go along with them. Have fun -- it's going to be a beautiful quilt!
Susan! I intend to do 7 across and 8 down as well and have a few extra blocks to make! I will probably set them out as you say by dispersing the colours, light/dark etc! Like yours, mine will have a scrappy look too, but I haven't decided on sashing style yet! Your one step ahead of me LOL, at least you have laid them out on the floor, I haven't even done that yet!!!!
I signed up to your rss feed! Will you post much more about this theme? Precisely what I required to get. Really clear and valuable post. Im certainly a violator of many of these guidelines.
I pretty much agree with everyone-I think about what I want to use the quilt for and that helps decide the layout. If you're not sure now about the space-go with the 7 x 8 layout.
For the placement of the blocks: use your camera! An arrangement you think is nice but you want to try something else may never be found again without that pix. The pix also is a great help when you're sewing rows and then you want to sew the rows together but can't remember which went where :)
