Moving Along

I am determined to get this post out since it has been in the edit's folder for over a week. Packing is all I do around here but I am finally seeing an end. We have reached the two-week mark having our movers come Friday, 2 October.

While clearing the attic I found this old quilt that Steve's grandmother made for him when he was a child.

I have several quilts by her and they are all tied.

It has several worn areas which expose a thick cotton batting that looks like a blanket. I know she was very frugal and would have repurposed old blankets.

The binding is the backing wrapped around to the front.

September has always been a busy month with my daughter's
and son's birthdays on the 15th and 18th.
Steve and I were married on the 10th and he never fails to get me flowers.

So it is only right that our move to AZ should be in September too.

Please know that I am reading your blogs
even though I don't comment; it is nice to read what is happening elsewhere.

XO,
Susan

P.M.S. I will not miss the dang humidity in Michigan!

Good luck with the move. In high school we had to reuse or redo something that was sewn and I actually did make a quilt over an old quilt. That was one dang heavy quilt but it was warm! It was so hard to work with too. I used to bind the way this one was bound to until I learned how to make bias binding. This really is a treasure that you found. Cindy

Happy birthdays and anniversary to all! Oh my, moving is such a chore, but it's also sometimes like Christmas...uncovering all the treasures we forgot we had!
Good luck with your move and let us all know when you've arrived and have internet!

What a special find. Love the fabrics used in the vintage quilt.

Isn't it funny to see a modern looking quilt that's not modern at all! I love the old quilts, but they are so fragile you can't really use them, just look at them and touch them once in a while.

I miss seeing you in blogland, but know you're busy. I don't envy you the packing, but as another commenter said - you're discovering lots of treasures you haven't seen lately. Take care of you and your honey. You're in my thoughts and prayers. ~

That's a very cool old quilt -- and so funny that that pattern is popping up in blogs a lot lately. Boy, that move is sneaking up on you quickly!

What a wonderful treasure to find, I recently bought 2 part made quilts which were started in the early 40's but never finished. I am so looking forward to stitching on them when I get around to sorting my craft room out as it has so many boxes in there ;o) I love reading your blog and hope your move went well and it wasn't to traumatic.
